As part of the roll-out of the development of the Dutch hydrogen network, Hynetwork Services (a 100% subsidiary of Gasunie N.V.) together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) will organise an information meeting for (future) clients. Hynetwork Services will provide an overview of the current state of affairs of the roll-out plan for the hydrogen network, including the progress of our procedures and the contractual process. Additionally, EZK will explain the framework for the hydrogen network. After these informative sessions, you can network over lunch.

Shell is the first company to sign an agreement to use the hydrogen pipeline (formerly known as HyTransPort) in the port of Rotterdam that Gasunie is laying in collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam Authority from the Maasvlakte to Pernis in order to make the industry in the port more sustainable.

Hynetwork has established its connection policy for Hydrogen network Netherlands. In this connection policy, we define the rules for parties seeking to connect to the Dutch hydrogen network.

The first specifications for Hynetwork Services customers are available. It concerns the 'Functional requirements for fiscal and non-fiscal metering systems; Hydrogen network'.

The entire hydrogen network in the Netherlands is too big to build all at once, so we are doing it in sections. We have divided the network into several subsections (routes). When building the hydrogen network, we will follow the steps below for each route.

The various departments involved in the Hydrogen Network North Sea Canal Area project are hard at work, from the surveys at the location where the hydrogen pipeline will be laid to the engineers who are drawing up the detailed designs. At the same time, many people are working on the various permit applications, and the contractor is already considering how the work can best be carried out.

Hynetwork works in accordance with the principles and standards established in its connection policy. This connection policy is aimed at getting ahead of developments in the hydrogen market. Our goal is to encourage this development as much as possible. An increasing number of regional government bodies and other parties recently submitted requests to Hynetwork for the implementation of connection set-ups in the main network in preparation for future hydrogen developments in certain regions. Implementing a connection set-up is a good solution to be able to meet this need, which is why Hynetwork has decided to respond to these requests from (regional) parties. This has resulted in a new contract: the Valve Study Agreement (VSA)..

Hynetwork and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) are taking the next step in the Hydrogen Network Western Netherlands project. The research plan (the draft Scope and Detail Memorandum or draft NRD) is available for inspection from Friday 10 April 2026. This plan sets out what we intend to investigate and the potential routes we are considering for the hydrogen pipeline. Everyone is invited to comment on this plan until Thursday 21 May 2026.

The Delta Rhine Corridor will focus on the construction of pipelines for hydrogen and CO 2 . Minister Sophie Hermans of the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth announced this in a parliamentary letter on 5 December 2024.

On 7 March 2025, Hynetwork and the Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth together announced the preferred route, or ‘draft Preferred Alternative’, for the hydrogen network to be developed in the Dutch provinces of Drenthe and Overijssel.

On 19 April 2024, together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, we announced the preferred route for the development of the future hydrogen network in the North Sea Canal area.

The plans for the future hydrogen pipeline in the western Netherlands involve constructing a new pipeline through several nature reserves, including the Krimpenerhout nature reserve near Krimpen aan de Lek and the Donckse Velden nature reserve in Ridderkerk. During the presentation of the plans to the local community, we heard a number of concerns and responses. We spoke with Juanne Rours, Regional Manager for the Hydrogen Network Western Netherlands project, about how the route was selected and other options.

The draft of the Preferred Alternative (draft VKA) was available for public inspection from Friday 7 June to Thursday 18 July 2024.

Preparations for the start of the project procedure for the Delta Rhine Corridor West are in full swing. DRC West is the route for CO₂ and hydrogen from the Maasvlakte to Boxtel. We are exploring the route, engaging with local stakeholders, and preparing the publication of the necessary documents for the project procedure.

Construction of the hydrogen network in the north of the Netherlands is progressing well. Gasunie is on track to have the northern part of the national network completed by the second quarter of 2029. The challenge now lies in kick-starting production and offtake.

Construction of the 32-kilometer pipeline for transporting hydrogen in the Rotterdam port area is nearing completion. This pipeline in Rotterdam is not only the start of the national hydrogen network in the Netherlands, but also the first section of a future European hydrogen network. The infrastructure is intended to help industrial companies become more sustainable and is therefore a crucial link in the energy transition.

Gasunie’s hydrogen pipeline linking up Dow Benelux and Yara has been commissioned. This is the first time ever that an existing main gas transport pipeline has been made suitable for the transport of hydrogen. The gas transport pipeline, which was no longer in service, will now be used to transport hydrogen for industrial purposes. Underground transport through the gas network is an efficient, safe way of transporting hydrogen.

Together with Green Deal partner ICL-IP, the three parties intend to share hydrogen for industrial purposes through a gas transport pipeline that is no longer in service. Underground transport through the gas network is an efficient, safe way of transporting hydrogen. The collaboration is part of the Smart Delta Resources platform’s industrial sustainable growth partnership, which is facilitated by the Zeeland development company Impuls.

Hydrogen may well be the most important link in the energy transition. Hynetwork is building the hydrogen superhighway in the Netherlands, connecting supply and demand. The first 32 kilometres of this network have been laid in the Rotterdam port area, and the final pipes were welded together in mid-August! With this first section of the national hydrogen network, we are laying the foundation for a future in which the Port of Rotterdam will become a major energy gateway for Europe and will be connected to Germany, Belgium, and the rest of the Netherlands.

Four companies in the North Sea Canal area are taking the next concrete step to connect to Gasunie’s future hydrogen network because they want to start producing or using hydrogen. Vattenfall, Sunoco, HyCC and Tata Steel have signed a Connection Study Agreement (CSA) with Hynetwork to start preparing the connections. The interest comes at a time when the contours of the hydrogen network in the North Sea Canal area, part of the national hydrogen network, are beginning to take shape. The preferred route for the future hydrogen network in this industrial region was announced last month.

Hynetwork Services has published an overview of the preferences of market parties for the technical specifications of the Dutch national hydrogen transport network. The overview is based on the response by (potential) users to a market consultation carried out last year. The results will be used as input for the final (technical) specifications for the transport network. Friday 15 October, a webinar on the development of the national hydrogen infrastructure will be held for interested parties.

The first part of the Dutch hydrogen network will run from the planned hydrogen plant at Maasvlakte 2 (a new extension of the Port of Rotterdam) to the Shell Pernis refinery. This is an extraordinary operation that involves a great deal of work.
