Hydrogen Network Netherlands is not a temporary installation. Once the pipelines are in place, they will stay there for a long time. That is why the local environment is very important to us. After all, we are well aware that we are guests on and in someone else’s land. We want to enjoy a friendly relationship with you and your neighbours in the area where we want to lay the hydrogen network. We also think it is important that you be able to share your ideas at the various steps in the Project Procedure.

During the webinar on the 22nd of April 2022, we invited you all to ask questions. We received over one hundred questions and we would like to thank everyone for submitting their questions. We have reviewed all questions and categorized the questions and answers as follows for your convenience.

Hydrogen Network North Sea Canal Area has reached an important milestone: the completion of the detailed design for the new hydrogen pipeline and the conversion of the natural gas pipeline. This is a significant step in the journey from idea to implementation. We spoke with Herbert Stoffers, lead engineer at Hynetwork, and Peter Kreuk, technical project manager at REARC*. Together, they discuss the intensive design process, clever choices of construction techniques, and the challenges of working in a busy area (partly underground).

The Delta Rhine Corridor is a cluster of underground pipelines and cables, which is currently under development in the stretch of pipeline running from Rotterdam via Moerdijk to the Dutch province of Limburg and further on to Germany.

In recent months, we have made significant progress in further developing the route for the hydrogen pipeline in the southwest of the Netherlands. Rens Wilbers is involved in this effort as regional manager and a liaison between the project and the local community. We spoke to him about how the hydrogen network in the southwest of the Netherlands is progressing. What steps have been taken to further develop the route? What challenges must be overcome? And what is the schedule for the next step in the project procedure?

From 22 April to 17 May 2022, Hynetwork Services conducted a consultation process about the general terms and conditions for hydrogen transport and connection services. All interested market parties were welcome to participate by answering four questions about this contractual framework. The consultation process started with an online information session in which the contractual framework was explained. The consultation was conducted in a good, constructive and open manner, and Hynetwork Services would like to thank everyone for their effort and feedback.

Over the next few years, we at Hynetwork will build the hydrogen network in the Netherlands. It will be a mammoth task, totalling some 10 million working hours. Statistics tell us that with this number of working hours, we can expect very serious incidents, even ones with fatal consequences. This is unacceptable, which means doing nothing is not an option. That’s why we, as the commissioning authority, will ensure that we have clear and unambiguous working agreements with all our partners. Marja Post, HSE lead for the Hydrogen Network Netherlands, explains.

2025 was marked by the headway we made in the development of the Dutch national hydrogen network. We took major steps in various project procedures and made intensive preparations for construction, from research and design development to permit applications, agreements with landowners and ordering materials. Thanks to these steps, we can move forward in 2026 with building the hydrogen network. In Rotterdam, construction hit a high point with the final weld, a significant milestone toward the completion of this first part of the hydrogen network.

Daarna komt het aan op de uitvoering zelf. Als opdrachtgever geven we maximale ruimte aan veiligheid. De dagelijkse leiding over de veiligheid ligt bij onze opdrachtnemer.
