About Hynetwork

Hynetwork (Hynetwork Services B.V.) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gasunie. We are building a nationwide hydrogen network in the Netherlands. This network will enable industry to switch from fossil fuels to more sustainable raw materials and fuels.

Combating climate change is one of today’s biggest challenges. In just 25 years, we will have to work together to convert almost a century’s worth of energy from coal, oil and gas into a clean energy supply. The hydrogen network has a significant part to play in the energy transition and will help us reach our climate goals.

Knowledge and expertise

Gasunie has over 60 years of experience in natural gas transport and infrastructure management. As a subsidiary of Gasunie, we at Hynetwork are putting this knowledge and experience to use in building the hydrogen network and soon will apply it to managing the pipelines and installations. We are also continuously increasing our knowledge about hydrogen transport. In other words, we are continuing to do what we have always done: ensuring safe and reliable gas transport.

Working together on the energy transition

We cannot build the hydrogen network on our own; we have to work together with the government, industrial partners and our neighbours.

The national government has commissioned us to develop the hydrogen network in the Netherlands. As this is a project of national significance, the national government is coordinating the decisions and permits. We are working closely with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) and the Energy Projects Agency at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) on the many project procedures for the subprojects related to Hydrogen Network Netherlands.

We also are seeking connections with industrial parties in the Netherlands and with grid operators abroad. The network we are building in the Netherlands will connect our country’s five largest industrial areas to foreign countries.

To carry out this project, we are working closely with contractors. Our aim is to build in the most emission-free way possible, while putting safety first.

Personal and committed

Hydrogen network Netherlands is not a temporary installation. Once the pipelines are in place, they will stay there for a long time. That is why the local area is very important to us. After all, we are well aware that we are guests on and in someone else’s land. We want to enjoy a friendly relationship with the organisations, residents, landowners and local authorities in the area where we want to lay the hydrogen network.
