Hydrogen Network North Sea Canal Area has reached an important milestone: the completion of the detailed design for the new hydrogen pipeline and the conversion of the natural gas pipeline. This is a significant step in the journey from idea to implementation. We spoke with Herbert Stoffers, lead engineer at Hynetwork, and Peter Kreuk, technical project manager at REARC*. Together, they discuss the intensive design process, clever choices of construction techniques, and the challenges of working in a busy area (partly underground).

Regional public and private parties (such as local and provincial authorities, port authorities and network operators) can enter into an agreement and the associated financial obligations with Hynetwork for the development and implementation of a connection set-up for future hydrogen developments in the region. This is called a Valve Study Agreement (VSA).

Market parties and transmission system operators from the Netherlands and Germany want accelerated cross-border hydrogen infrastructure to connect Dutch hydrogen production and import with German industry. To reinforce its importance, Dutch and German infrastructure companies, energy companies and governments today signed agreements in Duisburg on developing a hydrogen corridor between the Netherlands and Germany and its use.

Spanish energy company Iberdrola wants to export green ammonia to the Netherlands and supply it to its European customers as hydrogen through Gasunie's national hydrogen network. To establish this green hydrogen chain from Spain to the Netherlands, the Spanish energy company signed letters of intent with Dutch Gasunie’s subsidiary Hynetwork Services and ACE Terminal. In doing so, Iberdrola will export green ammonia to the Netherlands through the planned ACE import terminal at the Port of Rotterdam and transport it as green hydrogen via the Dutch national hydrogen network of Hynetwork Services to European customers.
