Final ground surveys completed in Amsterdam port area
A new pipeline for transporting hydrogen will be built in the Amsterdam port area as part of Hydrogen Network North Sea Canal Area. We recently carried out the final studies for the port area, which was an important step towards the final design.
Soil investigation
What did we investigate?
We looked at what exactly is in the ground and how the soil is constructed. This includes the type of soil (such as peat, sand or clay), the various soil layers and the depth of ditches.
We also tracked down the existing pipes so we know where they are and how they are routed. This allowed us to accurately map the entire subsoil.
Why is this a milestone?
Thanks to the surveys, we have been able to finalise the definitive design for the hydrogen pipeline at that location. We now know exactly where everything is and the condition of the ground. That helped us determine whether the design was feasible and which construction technique is best suited to this location. We also checked where the new pipes need to connect to the existing pipes, including the welds. In short, this information helped us put the finishing touches on the final design.
