Preparatory work started in Ommen
In early March, Hynetwork began preparatory work at the Gasunie facility in Vilsteren. We aim to convert an existing natural gas pipeline from Tjuchem (province of Groningen) to Ommen. As part of the preparations, we are currently constructing a bypass for the transport of natural gas. This allows us to safely convert the existing pipeline for hydrogen transport once the hydrogen network can be realized in the region.
What has happened in recent weeks?
Over the past few weeks, we have prepared the construction site. Steel road plates have been laid, construction fences installed, and trees trimmed along the sand path to allow delivery of construction materials. Groundwater drainage systems have been installed, and topsoil has been removed. All work is being carried out by contractor Hanab.
What are we working on now?
The next step is excavating parts of the pipeline and installing temporary sheet piles. This process, known as creating construction pits, is necessary to build the bypass. In the coming weeks, we will be placing these sheet piles and digging the pits. Once the pits are ready, a new pipeline will be drilled underneath the existing natural gas pipelines.
How do we consider nature?
Before starting the work, we surveyed the area. An ecologist accompanied us to identify (protected) animals and plants in the area. This ecologist will remain involved throughout the project. Toad fences have been placed around the construction site to prevent toads from entering.
Additional measures:
- The excavator is equipped with a special filter to reduce nitrogen emissions.
- We use construction electricity from our own compressor station in Ommen and hydrogen generators to power various machines.
- Electricity is used to pump groundwater out of the construction pits, preventing water nuisance during the work and ensuring a safe working environment.
