This means that we know right down to the last millimetre where we will lay the pipeline and how. This would never have been possible without close collaboration with the local communities. Save the date: market update event 29 June Hydrogen network Netherlands As part of the roll-out of the development of the Dutch hydrogen network, Hynetwork Services (a 100% subsidiary of Gasunie N.V.) together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) will organise an information meeting for (future) clients. Hynetwork Services will provide an overview of the current state of affairs of the roll-out plan for the hydrogen network, including the progress of our procedures and the contractual process. Additionally, EZK will explain the framework for the hydrogen network. After these informative sessions, you can network over lunch. Shell first customer hydrogen pipeline Rotterdam port Shell is the first company to sign an agreement to use the hydrogen pipeline (formerly known as HyTransPort) in the port of Rotterdam that Gasunie is laying in collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam Authority from the Maasvlakte to Pernis in order to make the industry in the port more sustainable. Connection policy Hynetwork has established its connection policy for Hydrogen network Netherlands. In this connection policy, we define the rules for parties seeking to connect to the Dutch hydrogen network. Specifications for the hydrogen network available The first specifications for Hynetwork Services customers are available. It concerns the 'Functional requirements for fiscal and non-fiscal metering systems; Hydrogen network'. Steps towards establishing the hydrogen network The entire hydrogen network in the Netherlands is too big to build all at once, so we are doing it in sections. We have divided the network into several subsections (routes). When building the hydrogen network, we will follow the steps below for each route. Timely preparation by the Land Affairs department in the North Sea Canal Area The various departments involved in the Hydrogen Network North Sea Canal Area project are hard at work, from the surveys at the location where the hydrogen pipeline will be laid to the engineers who are drawing up the detailed designs. At the same time, many people are working on the various permit applications, and the contractor is already considering how the work can best be carried out. “Conditions for accession to the hydrogen transport network, Ministry of Climate and Green Growth” published in the Staatscourant On 19 December 2025, a notice was published in ‘de Staatscourant’ regarding the conditions for accession to the hydrogen transport network. This publication includes: House of Representatives informed about cost estimate for hydrogen network The development of the hydrogen infrastructure is crucial for decarbonising industry. Towards the end of last year, Hynetwork presented a draft version of its new roll-out plan for the hydrogen network to market participants for consultation purposes. After considering the proposed changes to the roll-out plan, Hynetwork updated the investment costs for the hydrogen network and earlier this month we informed the Minister about the results. Although the roll-out plan has yet to be finalised, it is clear that, as with other energy infrastructure, the investment costs are increasing. Regional managers Business developers Contributing ideas and feedback Hydrogen Network Netherlands is not a temporary installation. Once the pipelines are in place, they will stay there for a long time. That is why the local environment is very important to us. After all, we are well aware that we are guests on and in someone else’s land. We want to enjoy a friendly relationship with you and your neighbours in the area where we want to lay the hydrogen network. We also think it is important that you be able to share your ideas at the various steps in the Project Procedure. A hydrogen pipeline running under or alongside your land Together, we are building the hydrogen network for the Netherlands to do our bit for the energy transition. Hydrogen will enable industry to go sustainable and reduce carbon emissions. Wherever we can, we are using existing natural gas pipelines and repurposing them for hydrogen transport. Where this is not possible we install new pipelines. Region overview The roll-out plan How we ensure a reliable hydrogen network Hydrogen plays an important role in the energy transition. It enables industry to become more sustainable. Hydrogen can be transported and stored, ensuring that the Netherlands has a reliable energy supply for the future. Safety is at the heart of this process. From design to operation, we make sure hydrogen is transported safely through our network, using strict standards, suitable materials, and continuous monitoring. This is how we build a network that is ready for the future and safe for people and the environment. Building the hydrogen network As we build the national hydrogen network, we reuse existing natural gas pipelines wherever we can. Where this is not an option, we install new hydrogen pipelines. Find out more about how we reuse existing natural gas pipelines, install new hydrogen pipelines and always put safety first. North Sea Canal Area The North Sea Canal Area is one of the Netherlands’ major industrial regions. It is an important area for logistics and industry. Sustainable hydrogen is needed to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions in the region. The Hydrogen Network North Sea Canal Area will help achieve this goal by enabling companies in the region to use hydrogen in the future. The network will be connected to the national hydrogen network and will link the North Sea Canal Area to other industrial regions, hydrogen storage sites and international connections. Drenthe Overijssel Hydrogen Network Drenthe and Overijssel is the hydrogen network in the provinces of Drenthe and Overijssel. This part of the network provides the connection to the industrial cluster in the Northern Netherlands (Groningen) and to Hydrogen Network Eastern Netherlands. In the future, there will also be a connection from this area to Germany. Eastern Netherlands Hydrogen Network Eastern Netherlands will be a key connection in the national network. It will connect industries in the north and south of the Netherlands with the hydrogen storage site and other countries. Rotterdam Rotterdam is already one of the most important energy ports in Europe. Hynetwork has laid a new hydrogen pipeline in this area to help the Port of Rotterdam establish and maintain its position as Europe’s leading green energy port. That is good for employment and our climate. Groningen Hydrogen Network Groningen is the part of the national hydrogen network that runs from Eemshaven via Tjuchem to Delfzijl, and then to the Dutch-German border at Oude Statenzijl and the provincial border with Drenthe at Nieuwediep. It provides an essential connection within the province of Groningen and with neighbouring regions. Limburg The future hydrogen network in Limburg will supply green hydrogen to industry in Limburg. In addition, the Chemelot industrial cluster will be connected to other large industrial areas in the Netherlands and to the hydrogen storage location in Zuidwending. Delta Rhine Corridor The Delta Rhine Corridor is a cluster of underground pipelines and cables, which is currently under development in the stretch of pipeline running from Rotterdam via Moerdijk to the Dutch province of Limburg and further on to Germany.
