Quality and temperature
A final decision on the quality specification and temperature will be taken by the Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth (KGG).
In neighbouring countries, where a minimum purity requirement of 98% is now regularly applied, there is increasing support for a minimum purity requirement of 99.5%. The European Commission expects to start a European standardisation process for hydrogen, which is likely to take around 3 years. In the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, hydrogen flows into the grid are coming on stream earlier. Therefore a number of transport companies in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, including Gasunie, have started working on a joint specification based on 99.5% purity.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) will publish the provisional hydrogen specifications for the hydrogen network in autumn 2026. Once published, we will provide a link to these specifications on our website.

Specifications for Hynetwork customers are listed in the GTS Index. This GTS Index describes all specifications of the Gasunie Technical Standard currently in force. The specifications are not automatically supplied to contractors, engineering consultants or suppliers.
The specifications are not automatically supplied to contractors, engineering consultants or suppliers. Suppliers receive the relevant specification(s) at the time of a request for a quotation and/or order letter. For ongoing projects, Gasunie determines which documents are applicable and makes this known to the contractors and engineering consultants in the application documents. Contractors and engineering firms can request the documents by e-mail. To do so, contact your business developer or send an e-mail to [email protected].
