First 32 kilometres of the hydrogen network filled with green hydrogen
The first major pipeline section of the Dutch hydrogen network has been filled with hydrogen. To fill the 32km-long pipeline, 32 tonnes of RFNBO-certified green hydrogen were procured, along with customised unloading infrastructure needed for the first pipeline cleaning and filling operations. The work was done in partnership with Plug Power Inc., which was selected following a public procurement process.
Collaboration with specialist partners is key
This project saw engineering teams from Gasunie and Plug Power Inc. work together to develop a special system that makes it possible to simultaneously unload three MEGC-carrying trailers in a configuration with high throughput capacity, which is essential for efficient pipeline filling. This project shows just how important it is to have specialist partners on board to be able to safely and efficiently build the required infrastructure.
